FAQ

I want to be as transparent about my process as possible. If you have other questions please send me an email!

  • I made my first quilts from bleached and cut up black t-shirts in 2010/2011 - it was haphazardly sewn together and I never took photos of it. And I made my first patterned and pieced quilt in 2016. I am self taught but owe my talents to those who graciously have shared their wisdom (Hi Annie!), and a plethora of books and photos of amazing quilts - so thankful for those who share and preserve this work.

  • Natural dyeing has been around since probably the dawn of human age. Many plant and earth materials (and insects!) contain material that when done properly can bond to fibers. There are many intricate processes that factor in to creating a longer lasting color on the fiber. Natural dyes can be more susceptible to fading with exposure to light and washing - so the care for naturally dyed and hand made items is important.

  • Oof - well that’s a tough one. I’ve made a baby quilt in a week, and sometimes a project has taken me up to a year to complete. I work on multiple projects at once and often at varying stages. It depends on how large the quilt is and how complex the dyeing work and pattern is. I talk with each person on expected timelines and if I can meet those before taking on a project.

  • Again - it varies by size. It might be anywhere from 25 - 100+. Natural dyeing and hand stitching are both complex and slow processes. I try to enjoy the journey and not fret too much about timing myself though.

  • Maybe! It’s best to fill out my contact form, which you can find here !

  • Due to the immense time I put into each quilt I cannot accept returns. If you own a quilt from me and need a repair on it I will happily discuss that with you - I want each quilt I make to live alongside you and further generations as long as possible.

If any other textile or home good I make has any issues I will happily review your concern and offer you a repair or exchange, but cannot offer a refund on any purchase.

  • I want to reduce as much waste as possible so before you throw out your silk pillowcases I’d love to either exchange or re-dye them for you. I’m still working out the best practice I can offer as a business to do that, but in the meantime please email me to discuss options if you feel like your pillowcases are starting to bring you down.

  • iliria is my middle name! My father is from what is now known as Kosovo, and speaks Albanian. He gave me the name Iliria - it means “freedom”. I have always loved having a unique name and history and am honored to be able to use it as part of my business name.
